Team Temporary And Fardad’s Hour of Power

October 29, 2009 Leave a comment

We had our first IRC meeting with Fardad today; I’d say that it went well. we covered the basics of IRC meetings, SVN use, and the very basics of how assignment 2 will work. The only gripe that I have is that we don’t know all that much about the structure of A2 yet; I find that it’s somewhat difficult to divide the work up right now or to even get started when we don’t know all that much about A2.

Of course, Fardad did say that he wanted all No. 1 meetings to be done before uploading the rest of A2’s specs so there must be some reason behind this philosophy. In any case, I’m content enough with waiting; I have a special linked list to make 🙂

Finally done! Oh god I’m finally done. It took a while but that drama assignment is finally done.

Words cannot describe just how happy I am right now.

Now, back to my nine other assignments…

English, Drama, and The Endless Struggle

October 8, 2009 1 comment

Not a big update today, still working on my drama assignment, still working on A1 for OOP344 amongst miscellaneous other projects.

I’m really tired these days; I took one less day per week at my job and it has seemed to help but now my motivation is in short supply. What’s really killing me though is this damned drama assignment…

I’ve read so much; I’ve read all that is required of me and then some just on the side. Research, rough drafts, the list goes on, and yet this assignment just will not DIE. It’s actually delaying all of my other assignments which I want to do. What I don’t understand is why it’s so hard! This however is a pattern.

This is not the first time that I’ve been stuck on an assignment and infact this is not my first major either. A number of years ago, I was attending U of  T for computer science; at the time my goal was to get out with a BSc and to specialize in artificial intelligence. In that regard, I took a course called cognitive science (UNI250). I enjoyed that course very much and I averaged 83 on the three tests that we had for the course; however, things were not quite as merry as they had seemed…

As part of the course, we also had to write up two papers about material of our choosing. Both papers relied heavily on research and on scientific journals. Both papers, I didn’t do. I notice a pattern now, I’m extremely aversive to open-ended assignments; unless I know exactly what I want, I can’t go on. This seems to be the case with this assignment as well. What is interesting is that this assignment is much more defined and yet I’m having just as much trouble with it.

This tells me one thing: next time, ask for help right away. I need to be able to define the problem much better before I can proceed. I am literally sick of being blocked by relatively easy assignments that get me NOWHERE.

Ugh, well whatever. This is what I’ve been thinking about for oh… what…. two? three weeks now? It’s a living hell. I want out and I want out quick. I’m working on this drama assignment right now.

Hopefully, I’ll have better luck tonight.

Prostitution

So, who’s heard about this?

Sex trade laws in Canada are under attack

Source: CTV News

Summary:

So basically, Dominatrix Terri-Jean Bedford and former prostitute Valerie Scott shown here are arguing for better and safer prostitution laws.

In their current state, the laws push prostitutes into the dark corners of back alley streets to practice their trade. The interesting thing is that the laws in their current form deem prostitution LEGAL; however, any attempt to make the trade safer is infact ILLEGAL.

For example, selling and making money off of sex is legal while hiring protection, hiring a driver or practicing the profession indoors is illegal.

The case is being primarily argued by lawyer Alan Young and the law students of Osgoode Hall. Evidence and argumentation is being presented this week all through thursday however a decision could take months to finally arrive.

I personally think that the case of Valerie Scott and Terri-Jean Bedford should go forward and that the current laws should be repealed. Shoving this issue under the rug will not make it go away and that’s exactly what the current laws do. I don’t know about anyone else but I would rather that prostitution happen in a brothel, some place where the profession can be regulated and the professionals protected from violent clients.

Well ladies and gentlemen, I’m FINALLY done applying for my co-op positions! Now that’s a bit of a white lie since that was only phase 1 and we’re not really supposed to stop applying at any point buuuuuuuuut…. I’M DONE!!! HUURRAH!

It sure feels good to finally be done, this entire week I’ve been stressing and worrying but now that the rush is over, I just have to sit back, relax, grab a rum and coke, and watch the employers come runnin’

Or at least I hope they come running cuz otherwise I’m gonna be rushing even more! OH NO 😦

But not to worry my readers on the blog-o-sphere, if worse should come to worse and I find that no one is willing to hire little old me,

then at least I’ll know where to go to bitch and moan about it 🙂
